Read me first!

Dear Friends and Loved Ones.  Since our journey began in February 2011 we have had many people ask if we have a ‘care page’ for updates on our precious Lachlan.  At first it was much too painful to even think about it.  This web page was created in April 2011, but I found it was much too painful, at that point, to write openly about it.  I have many notes that I have written to myself along the way.  I find them on a napkin in the bottom of my purse.  I find them in the back of an appointment book.  I find them written on the back of a bill I took to the hospital with me.  Wherever I was and whatever I had on hand at the time the thought passed through me.   I get teased about why I don’t write them in the ‘notes’ section of my phone.  I’m an analog girl in a digital world.  So I will attempt to join the modern world and give you all updates through this site.  The first many posts will be an attempt to review and catch up on the sequence of events thus far.  As I find the bits of paper where my thoughts were written I will add them to the site; therefore, some posts may be out of sequence along the way.  Thank you for joining us on our journey.  Like Herman Cain’s grandfather understood… the bumpy road makes the big potatoes rise to the top!

So glad that you have started writing. I think about you every day and wonder how he is doing. I wish we would have known about caring bridge and some of the other sites while Terina was going through her treatment. Lots of things that we would do differently if we only had the chance. Sometimes it helps to share with others. it has helped me in the last two years to be able to talk about it. If there is anything I can ever do for you just let me know. Kaye Hepler

I’m another friend of Elaine’s in Zephyrhills and she has been wonderful to keep us posted on the stages you and Lachlan has been going through and it breaks my heart to read each one. What a little trooper he has been and your love & strength shows. God puts all of us through tough tests and we can’t question why…he really does have good reasons even if it doesn’t seem like it right now. His little angels are the most precious gifts he could ever give to Mothers and Fathers. My continued prayers go out to all of you during this difficult time. Take care and keep the faith…

    Dearest Underwood Family,
You have touched my life. Thank you so much for allowing me into your special world. Friday night (September 30th) I sat on my porch reflecting on our visit and woke up at 3am thinking of you all. I was dreaming about Lachlan on his “like-a-bike,” and he was laughing and having fun.

I wish I had the power to change life’s unfair path for your family. Please just know that I am here for you now and will be in the future. Your family’s love and strength is invincible and truly inspiring.

    Love,
    Bonnie

Hi, I’m Laurie Morrissey. I was one of Cullen’s classmates at Walker (my last name was Usery back then). I heard about what ya’ll are going through from some mutual friends. I recently sent him a Facebook message, but I didn’t hear back. Anyway, I was wondering how Lachlan is doing…recovering? Are ya’ll in the “wait and see” mode now? I’m so sorry to hear you are going through this.

I lost my little sister just over 3 1/2 years ago. She was 35 and it was totally unexpected. Undiagnosed epilepsy was the cause. I can relate to being thrown for a loop by unexpected illnesses and worse. I hope you and Cullen are doing okay..

    Take care,
    Laurie

I’m so sorry to hear of Lachlan’s passing. I didn’t realize that he was in hospice care and near the end. He looks like such a precious little guy. Your family is in my prayers.

Dearest Loved Ones, we are very sad to hear of Lachlan’s passing. All of you have been in our prayers daily. All our love goes out to your family. Much Love and Healing. Robin and Jenee’ (Margo’s sister)

  30. Leslie, I dont know if you remember me or not. My name is Eddie Blackwell, I was a sales rep for Underwood and sometimes you would be there and we would talk about the Falcons. I am so very sorry for your loss, I cannot empathize with you because I havent had to go thru what you and Cullen had to. Just know that I will pray for you and Cullen, not that you get over this but that God brings you inner peace that only he can provide. I lost my dad in 2009 and it was like losing a part of me, but I just dont see how that could ever compare to losing a precious child. You and Cullen will be in my prayers. God bless you both.
